John Travolta is the latest celebrity to defend Tom Cruise
    Published: 23-01-2008

John Travolta is the latest celebrity to defend Tom Cruise and the media criticism surrounding his internet video rant.

The Pulp Fiction star insists that Cruise – who has come under fire for footage in which he accuses U.S. government officials of lying to the public in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks – has a right to believe in what he likes.

"Tom has - we all have - the right to practice how we feel,” The 53-year-old actor told People.com at Saturday’s Australia.com's G'Day L.A. gala celebrating Australia Week 2008, adding: "It finally becomes unfair."

The Mission Impossible star has also faced heavy media scrutiny for Andrew Morton’s latest unauthorized biography – in which in the controversial author makes an array of accusations surrounding his then marriage to Nicole Kidman.

Tom Cruise: An Unauthorised Biography has been released in the United States, but has been banned in Australia and the UK, because of strict defamation laws and a pending legal threat from the Church of Scientology.

A spokesperson for the church has repeatedly labelled the book "a bigoted, defamatory assault replete with lies,” in a 15-page statement, addressing the numerous accusations.
